It seems to me that we all want to be loved.
We're all looking for love in our lives. There is a deep yearning to find an unconditional, caring acceptance that holds us in it arms.
With most of the people that I speak to and work with I can sense that there's a deep human need, a deep human calling towards love.
However, the thing that we're often chasing, the thing that we think is love, when we get it we notice that it doesn't quite deliver.
We spend so much time chasing this conditional, transactional experience where if I do something then I get something in return, or if I impress someone or say the right thing it'll look like they love me because I made them laugh, or I made them smile and they looked at me with a loving glance.
We spend our lives desperately seeking the love of others.
But that kind of love is fickle, it's fragile, it's delicate and it quickly comes and goes. It is dependent upon so many conditions.
The core condition that needs to be met is that there needs to be someone else. So if that's the kind of love we're looking for then in order to feel love there needs to be someone else. I need to have someone else to love me and actually that's quite a tricky condition to meet.
The kind of love that’s totally dependent on conditions and other people is not really the kind of love that we deeply want.
On the deepest level we want to be loved in a way that's unwavering, in a way that feels always accepting and always allowing. A love that feels reliable, like it's always here and not dependent upon conditions.
Most of our lives we've been brought up on love stories. Tales of romance where some heroic act, or some hero's journey with a revelation at the end results in everlasting love with another. We see it in movies, on TV, we read about it in books and it makes us believe that's what love is.
However the deepest love, the love that we all yearn for is much simpler than that, and it's much more available.
It is not dependent upon conditions therefore it isn't fragile. It is deeply robust and sturdy. This unconditional love has strength.
It doesn't come from another. We can share it and feel it whilst with others but this deep unconditional acceptance and allowance is always here.
This moment is the saturated with unconditional love!
This means that we don't have to try and find it, we don't have to look for someone else or something else to meet the conditions so that "I feel loved".
Our hearts know deep down that we want unconditional acceptance and love and the only place it can be found is Here. Always right Here! Always right Now!
So we explore This Moment. We explore where we're at & how we're feeling right now and we can ask: "Is there a loving facet or quality to this moment?"
“Is there a part of this experience which is unconditionally allowing?”
That's the kind of love that I want and I think that's the kind of love we all want, that which allows us to be us without caveats, without conditions, without expectations. A love that just sees us as are without needing anything from us and it allows us to be fully alive, warts and all. Not just the bits that we want to show to other people but the bits that we're ashamed of, the bits that frighten us, the bits that we regret.
Unconditional love allows all of the shameful and grimey parts as well as the highs and the achievements.
When we stop looking elsewhere for Love, and we explore what's right here, we notice that In this moment, in presence, all of us is allowed to be here. When you get a taste of that type of allowing presence that’s freely available, that type of love, you realize that you can relax. You don't need to look any further. You feel the Open Arms of the moment holding you, accepting you, supporting you and allowing you to fully be yourself.
When I feel into to this quality, this loving quality in each moment it becomes really clear to me that Love is This Moment, this eternal Now Moment, which is always here.
When we slow down and explore what’s right here we can feel the continually allowing nature of Now.
This moment seems to pour forth with its availability. It gives everything of itself. The entire existence of the Universe is given in every moment and it asks for nothing in return, and it never holds anything against us. It's not like this moment stops being this moment. This Right Now doesn’t stop playing because of our mistakes and what we've done in the past.
This moment just continually allows us to be as we are with our many faults and keeps on giving, keeps on giving, KEEPS ON GIVING.
The total availability of Existence available to us, as us, all of the time, outside of time right Here and Now.
That availability and openness is so far beyond anything that you can find in an apparent other. It's so far beyond our wildest imaginations.
When you start to feel that unconditional acceptance in your life and recognize that it's Here and it's what you are as well as what everything is, you stop needing to search for the love of another. Wherever you are, whatever you do you can be IN LOVE.
You can rest In Love with each other. I can be In Love with you. I don't need to love you, I can be In Love with you, with all of the world, all of life in each moment but I need to allow myself to be allowed. I need to trust that this allowing moment will not reject the parts of me that I have hidden all of my life.
Its ok if we have a moment of doubt or if we flinch away from the loving moment because this loving moment never holds that against us, it just says "when you're ready, I'm here for you fully!"
This moment is always here for us fully, accepting every aspect of who and what we are.
As unconditional availability and presence, Love is always Loving you!
Thank you Simon, what a wonderful text! I am going to put it on my screen so that I can read it very often. In fact, what I've been searching for all my life has been searching and being there for me.
Simon, Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I will read it again and again and again. When I come from THAT love I can perform miracles. And that love is available to me now - even amidst the clusterfuck that is the United States in this moment. What if I came at that mess from this love? May I have the love to come from that love in each moment. Thank you heartily Simon.
